Varicose veins often linked to faulty valves. They are veins that are enlarged, twisting, and swollen. They are generally recognized by dark purple or blue color. While varicose veins can occur anywhere throughout the body, it is most commonly found in feet or legs.

Varicose veins are more often than not believed to be a woman’s problem, which is not a big deal. If you too think on the same lines, think again as more than 46% of men suffer from this so-called-women disease. Over the years, varicose veins have become a bigger issue than just being a cosmetic concern. They lead to bleeding, discoloration, heavy leg, and skin ulcers.

Varicose Veins Symptoms
There are various signs and symptoms that help a person know they are suffering from varicose veins. Some of them are:

  • The veins turn purple in color
  • They seem to be twisted
  • The legs feel heavy
  • A minor injury results in longer bleeding
  • You may experience swollen ankles
  • The appearance of irregular whitish patches
  • Some people also have restless legs syndromes

Causes of Varicose Veins

Abnormal blood flow and weakening of blood vessels are the known two main causes of varicose veins. In this disease, small veins diverge from a single center point and take the shape of a star. The superficial blood vessels located near the skin turns red, purple, or blue and become noticeable.

Varicose Veins Risk Factors

There are a number of risk factors associated with varicose veins, with some of them being:
Genetics – Varicose vein is a hereditary disease which runs in the family.
Sex – While females are much likely to develop this disorder, men are not far behind.
Age – Age also plays an important risk factor as old men are more likely to develop varicose veins.
Occupations – Occupation is also a risk factor as people whose job involve them to stand for a long time have higher chances of developing this problem.

A physical examination by a qualified doctor is enough to determine whether the patient is having varicose veins or not. The practitioner may also perform various diagnostic tests to confirm the disease.
